Serenity Prayer Redux

I'll let ya in on a little secret...some of my best moments of clarity and introspect happen in the shower. May sound weird, but I think it's the lack of distractions. The other day, the second line of The Serenity Prayer written by Reinhold Niebuhr popped in my mind. Some categorize this as a prayer for rough times, but it applies to daily life in my opinion. Then I started thinking it wouldn't hurt to engage creative license by personalizing it to fit my thoughts and outlook on life (my additions are in brackets). I encourage you to consider doing the same with a work that inspires you.

~~ ~~ ~~

God grant me the serenity
to accept {and fully understand} the things {and people} I cannot change;
courage to change the {truly important} things I can;
and wisdom to know {and respect} the difference.

Living one day at a time {but not become complacent};
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting {and learning from} hardships as the pathway to {a heart of love and true} peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to {and believe in} His Will;
That I may be reasonably {wise, humble, loving,
forgiving and}
happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him {including the peace that surpasses all understanding}
Forever in the next.

Amen.

le jeu {the game}

i see now this won’t be easy
u slyly pulled away
trying your best not to please me

it’s okay, i created this game
won’t hold it against you
admit it...you love me just the same

you chose to take this route
hiding behind a nonchalant façade
guess it’s due to the thing we’ve painfully done without

it’s okay, i created the game
one that has you hesitant to make a move
my unrestrained love driving you damn near insane

you hold back from me
afraid your emotions will be exposed
cause you to love me unconditionally

it’s okay, i created the game
not to worry, big man
i love you just the same

wanting you back ain’t wise
fueled by greedy desires
emotions extremely hard to disguise

it’s okay, i created the game
let this thing evolve the way it’s supposed to and
maybe...one day i’ll wear your last name

Emotional Enigma

You crossed my mind early this mornin’...

To admit I miss you is to confess there’s a void

To say I’m confused is to concede I’m tormented by desire

To replay the good moments is to create a deeper longing

Adoration blindly constructed
Fragmented exposed emotions

To uncover a deficiency is to admit there’s a quandary

To want you in my life is to expose my emotions...vulnerability

To ponder unanswered questions is to assume the worst

Fragile yet resilient
Pliable yet strong-willed

To be unresponsive is to tolerate crippling hesitation

To ignore and forget is to repeat past faux pas

To understand and forgive is to acquire a mature mindset

A delicate affair
Necessitates reciprocity

Who grips the precious missing piece?
